Meeting With the Doctor
To determine whether or not belly button surgery is appropriate
for you and to ensure a safe and pleasing outcome, you will
meet at length with the doctors and staff at The Metropolitan
Institute for Plastic Surgery prior to your surgery. At
this meeting, your belly button will be evaluated and you
will discuss how you want your belly button to look after
your surgery.
The Metropolitan Institute for Plastic Surgery
doctors and staff will:
· Review the various belly button revision options with you
· Clearly discuss the potential risks of the procedure
· Outline in detail how the surgery is performed and what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure
· Provide detailed cost and payment information
· Answer all your questions
You will be asked to provide:
· Details about your medical history
· A list of all medications you currently take including over the counter medications such as aspirin, vitamins, and herbal supplements
· Information regarding your tobacco and alcohol use
How The Procedure Is Performed
Your belly button revision surgery is performed
at The Metropolitan Institute for Plastic Surgery. The procedure
takes about one hour to complete and is performed under
local anesthesia either with or
without sedation depending on your wishes. The doctor makes
a small incision in the belly button region and either removes
excess skin or overhangs a tiny bit of abdominal skin on
top of the belly button, depending on the result you desire.
Incisions are typically hidden within the belly button region and heal quickly and almost imperceptibly. Stitches are either dissolvable or are removed within seven to ten days.

Immediately After Your Surgery
Belly button revision surgery is performed at The Metropolitan
Institute for Plastic Surgery. Since the treatment is simple
and relatively painless, you can go home as soon as it is
completed. In many cases, dissolvable stitches are used
so there is no need to have them removed by the doctor.
If regular sutures are used, they are removed within seven
to ten days of your procedure.
The First 24 to 48 Hours After Your Surgery
Because belly button surgery causes very little swelling,
bruising, or discomfort, most people return to work and
normal activities either the same day or the day after the
procedure. The healing process starts immediately.
Things To Be Aware Of After Your Surgery
· An umbilical hernia may be the cause of your belly button distortion. If this is the case, it will be repaired during your belly button surgery.

What Are Possible Side Effects or Risks?
The risks associated with belly button revision surgery
are extremely rare. Though, like with all surgical procedures,
there are some risks. During your initial consultation with

Plastic Surgery, your individual risks will be assessed
and discussed and it will be determined if you are a good
candidate for the procedure. As with any surgery, you can
help reduce the risks by closely following the pre and post-surgery
instructions provided to you.

How Long Will the Results of Your Belly Button Revision Last?
Belly button surgery will revise your belly button to the shape and size you desire. The results of the surgery are permanent except in cases of large weight gain or pregnancy after surgery.
